How do I keep kids interested in reading?
This isn’t uncommon. Sometimes, kids just don’t want to read. There may be highs and lows with reading or even lulls, but keep introducing books that are new to them.
Award-winning books are great because they’re almost guaranteed to be good. (they won awards, after all!)
Also, don’t forget to sit down and ask your tween what type of books she is interested in. This gives you a look into her mind so that you can then get the books that she wants.

How often should tweens and teens read?
While there is no set rule on how often tweens and teens should read books, daily is never a bad idea.
The thing about reading is that the more that it’s done, the more natural it becomes.
Trying to help her understand that when she’s “bored,” picking up a book and reading it rather than picking up her cell phone is a positive step towards change.
You can also encourage reading by offering some sort of reward as well. Much like rewarding for chores being done or good grades – a reward for reading so many books per month or year can be a great incentive to keep her reading and filling her mind.
Stay away from setting an actual timer or time limits, and just request that they read 20 minutes or so per day. Before long, that will turn into a habit, and reading will be something that they just do naturally.
